Actor, Singer, Audiobook Narrator
Hi! I am an actor and singer based in Washington, DC. I began acting professionally later in life, but have been fortunate enough to have worked with The Kennedy Center, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Trinity Repertory Company, Contemporary Theater Boston, and The Center on Tour, as well as on screen in independent films and commercials.
I recently graduated with a Master’s of Fine Arts in Classical Acting from Shakespeare Theatre Company Academy/George Washington University, and study with the Jamison Jones Acting Studio and the Great Audiobook Adventure with Elise Arsenault.
My dad worked for the government and my husband is retired military. I've spent my whole life traveling, living all over the US and the world, immersed in other cultures in Honduras, Thailand, The Philippines, Spain, and Germany. This exposure to the world has given me an empathy and an understanding that shines in all of my work, as well as an ear for accents, including various British, American Southern, New York, French, Boston, and others.
A lover of education, I originally studied to be a teacher at James Madison University and graduated with a BS in Mathematics. I taught for 13 years–everything from fourth grade math to Calculus (Geometry is my favorite--in case you were wondering), as well as drama classes. This career was interrupted by the arrival of the first of our three children when I left paid employment to become a stay-at-home mom and parent our children throughout my husband’s multiple deployments (still my favorite job ever).
As much as I loved teaching math, the stage has always beckoned me. The connection with the audience, the chance to explore and understand other lives, the opportunity to inspire much-needed laughter--it's a blessing to my soul. I have been acting in some form since I was a child, even if just alone in my bedroom, and performing has brought me comfort through some of the toughest times in my life. Music, plays, art--they touch us in powerful ways.
“Any form of art is a form of power; it has impact, it can affect change – it can not only
move us, it makes us move.” – Ossie Davis, playwright and director
I wanted to share stories that inspire and entertain. So, I put my teaching career on permanent hiatus at the onset of the COVID 19 lockdowns when I decided to use the pause to change my life and pursue acting full-time.
I've always been a book lover. As a child, I would read until I could not keep my eyes open any longer. My husband and I used to go out to dinner and then read side by side in a bookstore as a date night before we had kids (party animals). Audiobooks kept me entertained on long trips when I couldn’t hold a physical book in my hands. As a teacher and a mother, I've shared my love of great literature, reading aloud to children for almost 30 years. Books are old friends that I’d like to share with you.
I have a bright, engaging mezzo-soprano voice which suits classic literature, spunky children’s books, biographies, women’s and historical fiction, and cozy mysteries to a tee.
In my spare time, I can be found at the gym, at church, on the slopes, or on the trails hiking with my family and dog. In the fall (my favorite season!), I spend a lot of time begging the football gods for wins for my favorite teams: the JMU Dukes, the Army Black Knights, and the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as baking my uncle John's pumpkin bread. I also love cheering on my kiddos at dance recitals, choir performances, and track meets. On Sundays, my husband and I have been perfecting the art of homemade pizza (hence the many trips to the gym), to lavish praise from the family critics.
